WESTWOOD ROUNDS UP ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SEASON WITH THE HELP OF TOP NUTRITIONIST

It's been an action-packed six months for Centrum sponsored Lee Westwood, the Europe's number one golfer.

Not only has his golfing talent made him Europe's number one, but Lee has also been seeking advice from top Sports Nutritionist, Gill Horgan.

Working alongside Lee's sponsors Centrum a complete multimineral-multivitamin Gill Horgan has devised an exclusive nutrition-based programme to help Lee perform at his best through a new approach to diet and improved fitness.

The programme is focused on key areas affecting performance, including energy levels, fluid intake, nutrition and lifestyle.  Lee has implemented the programme with the help of Gill and the support of his wife, Laurea.  Now in his seventh month Lee confirms the programme has helped his performance both on and off the course and is positive about what he has achieved so far:

Q:

How has the nutritional programme helped to improve your game?

Westwood:

I've learned a lot from Gill since I started the programme.  Thanks to her and the programme, my energy levels have increased and I feel far less fatigued at this stage of the year than I have done over the last few years.

Q:

What key changes have you made since the start of the programme?

Westwood:

Gill's initial assessment showed that I needed to increase my carbohydrate and fluid intake to maintain stamina while competing.  I've made a conscious effort to do this both on and off the course.

Q:

Is the programme difficult to sustain when you're abroad?

Westwood:

One of the reasons that I became involved in the programme is that I was getting dehydrated while playing tournaments abroad and Gill developed the programme to help me deal with being on tour.  One thing that I do now when I'm playing tournaments abroad is top up my fluid and energy levels by drinking water and eating bananas round the course.  This has really been successful and I feel much less tired and don't suffer dehydration as I have done in the past.

Q:

What foods do you really miss?

Westwood:

A good fry-up!  But you know, there's ways round everything.  I'm partial to bacon sandwiches, but can still enjoy them from time to time by cutting the fat off and grilling the bacon instead of frying it.

Q:

How does Laurae, your wife, help with the programme at home?

Westwood:

Laurae's been fantastic really supportive and has been working with Gill to make sure I eat the right kind of foods and stick to the nutritional guidelines at home.

Lee is looking to build on this year's achievements by competing in the Nedbank Golf Challenge in Sun City before taking a well-earned rest.
